Srinagar, Jan 27 (KNO): Amid prevailing inclement weather conditions and forecast of widespread light to moderate rain and snowfall across Kashmir, including Srinagar district, authorities on Tuesday issued an advisory, urging residents to avoid unnecessary movement. The advisory, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), states that the public has been asked to remain vigilant and stay indoors until January 31, venturing out only in cases of absolute necessity. Tourists, local Shikara Wallas, sand miners and others operating on Dal Lake, River Jhelum and other water bodies have been strictly advised against crossing or operating without first verifying prevailing conditions and the safety status of these water bodies. In case of emergencies, residents can contact the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC), Srinagar, at 9103998355, 9103998356, 9103998357, or the Police Control Room (PCR) at 0194-2477567. JOINT INSPECTION BY SRINAGAR DISTRICT & MUNICIPAL AUTHORITIES As a proactive measure, the district and municipal administration conducted a comprehensive joint inspection of key essential establishments, focusing on major healthcare institutions and critical road networks. “The inspection covered Lal Ded Maternity Hospital, SMHS Hospital and major city roads including Boulevard Road, Gupkar Road and areas via Dargah Hazratbal. Officers assessed snow clearance operations, dewatering arrangements and the availability of essential services to ensure uninterrupted functioning of critical facilities,” the officials said. The team was led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar and included officials from Srinagar Municipal Corporation, PWD (R&B) and the Civil and Mechanical Divisions. Special attention was given to mechanical installations supporting hospital operations. The team also visited the Mechanical Division Control Room at Shalteng to assess operational readiness. The inspection was conducted under the overall supervision of Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo and Commissioner SMC Faz Lul Haseeb, as part of a coordinated strategy to maintain essential services, safeguard public convenience and ensure readiness during adverse weather conditions.
